Four people were taken to area hospitals for suspected drug overdoses on the Near South Side on Tuesday afternoon.

The Chicago Fire and Police departments responded to a call at 2250 S. State at about 4:20 p.m., according to Fire Media Affairs Deputy Director Eve Rodriguez, who said the first responders found several people down of apparent drug overdoses.
One person was taken in "red" or critical condition to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, one person was taken in "yellow" or fair to serious condition to Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center, and two people were taken in "yellow" condition to the University of Illinois Medical Center at Chicago, she said.

There were also "a few refusals," Rodriguez said, people who may have been injured but would not be taken to hospitals.

No further information was immediately available, Rodriguez said about 4:50 p.m.

A Police News Affairs spokeswoman said only that officers were still on the scene in the 2200 block of South State for a report of multiple overdoses, but no further information was immediately available.
