Police: Man Sets Kids Free, Kills Self

EULESS, Texas -- A standoff between police and an armed man with his three children inside their Euless home has come to an end.

Officials said the man released his children from the home at about 9 a.m. before fatally shooting himself. Officials told NBC 5 that the man told the children that he was going to kill himself after he set them free.

When officers entered the home, they found the man's body inside.


Euless police said the man was barricaded inside his home in the 100 block of Laurel Drive and refused to come out since about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The man's wife fled the home Wednesday night and called police. The woman said she was being held captive in the home since about 8 a.m. that day and was the victim of abuse.

Officials told NBC 5 that they believe the man has a number of weapons inside the home, although no shots have been fired.

Police were in contact with the man for more than 12 hours but were hesitant to storm the residence because of the three children inside. According to police, the man did not make any threats to his children.
