DOT upset at deputy driving in work zone to get to domestic...
http://www.newswatch50.com/news/loca...B-B214D57E7C3D
Just wanted to get some reactions. I ain't saying the deputy was right or wrong, but what would you have done? And Shepards we shall be,
for thee, My Lord, for thee,
Power hath descended forth from Thy hand,
That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy Command.
So we shall flow a river forth to Thee
And teeming with souls will it ever be.
In Nomine Patris, Et Filli, Et Spiritus Sancti.

Boo-freakin-hoo, DOT. If someone had been killed at the DV call, I'm sure that the deputy saving the government a relatively insignificant $5,000 would have been a comfort to the family.
If he was driving recklessly where workers might have been hit, I can see a more important point. If it's just about the resurfacing being messed up... crazy.

DOT guys here seem to think their authority goes above all others. I had a DOT guy call me to complain on a officer that works for me because he responded to an accident in a construction lane. No one was hurt in the crash, but the vehicles air bag had deployed on one car and the other had enough damage requiring a tow. They wanted to complain to me that the officer needed to work faster to get the cars towed and how much we were delaying their job. BOO FREAKIN HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DOT workers suck!!! One time, they were blocking off one lane of traffic on a 2 way street, causing it to be a 1 lane road. The DOT workers were directing traffic. I was en route to an emergency call, and had my lights and siren on. The DOT worker tried to stop me (I was the only car coming my way) from going, and was going to open up the other lane of travel. What an idiot. I kept going. He quickly moved out of the way (yes, he was blocking me from coming with his body) at last minute, and gave me a dirty look. Contrary to popular belief, they don't own the road.

I see young, and some older, officers driving like idiots once in a while and wonder why they feel the need to drive like that. We get hundreds of domestics everyday with many amounting to nothing. I know the seriousness of domestics so I don't need reminding but I doubt this officer had to do this.

I see both sides. I've seen people go balls to the wall for "verbal only domestics" or other calls where the dispatched info doesn't really support their driving. But, I also know how fast a situation can change.

Some of the other DOT stupidity described above (like not clearing the way for an officer running code!)... That's a whole different matter. I also can understand a job supervisor's concerns about work stoppage while a crash is worked; most places contract road work and often, the contracts include incentives to finish on time.

I wonder if he knew what they were working on? If he just thought they had put up cones to do some painting or something he might not have expected to cause any problems. Just giving the guy the benefit of the doubt

I'll hold judgement. It doesn't say if the call came in as no weapons, weapons in the house or unknown weapons. The later two you can believe I would have done what this deputy did. The first would be a judgement call because as we all know kitchen knifes are used often in DV's and if traffic was moving at a crawl or stopped I'd go for it.

....also we don't know the background of that household. There are a couple in every town/city/countryside that, if there's a call, you better hurry as the odds someone will be hurt/killed are much higher than any other house in your beat.

I'm going to reserve my thoughts till I get more evidence.
But on what the story said he did receive a second call, and that it had escalated. It didn't say how it escalated, was there now physical fighting? Were weapons now involved? Were the children now involved someway?
