Death row inmate Darryl Holton could become the first prisoner to die in Tennessee's electric chair in 46 years.

It is unknown why Holton chose the chair over lethal injection. He's set to die September 19.

Holton fatally shot his three young sons and his ex-wife's daughter in 1997. He admitted to shooting the four children execution style.

“It was cake, they didn't know what was going on, they didn't know what was happening, they never knew what hit them,” Holton said of the killing.

To this day, Holton has yet to say why he did what he did.

“I think I made a tough decision, and at the right time I made the right decision,” Holton said.

Under Tennessee law, death row inmates can choose between the electric chair and lethal injection if their crimes were committed before 1999.

“The court made the decision in the late 90's that lethal injection would be the method of execution in Tennessee,” Dorinda Carter with the Tennessee Department of Correction said. “He's checked this box which reads ‘I waive the right to be executed by lethal injection, and choose to be executed by electrocution.’”

The last time the electric chair was used was in 1960, when William Tines was executed for rape.

“There's no shaking or quivering,” Administrator Billey Smith said. “Actually, a very sudden thing. Tense up a little, and then relax, then it's all over with.”

Darryl Holton has yet to make any appeals in his death row case. Four days before he is scheduled to be executed September 19, Holton will be moved to Death Watch. Guards there will monitor him around the clock.

This happened in the little town where I now work. This SOB shot the kids, then went to the police station and said I want to turn myself in for murder 4 times! SICK BASTARD, the kids never had a chance in hell and I hope he rots in hell!

More than likely he hates needles, I personnally believe he should die the way his victims died. shoot him in the back of the head execution style

It'd be nice if they turned the juice up a few watts at a time so we could watch him start to do the chicken before he takes a dirt nap.

I have a new system of execution I designed:

Put them in a room with the victim's surviving family, and let nature take its course. Then if they're still alive, let the victim's friends have a shot at them.

But that would be wrong.

Anyone up for a weanie roast? Crispy critters all around. There may not be any shaking or quivering, but there will be some smoke coming outa that chair

If I was sentenced to death and had a choice, I would choose public beheading much like what happened to Nick Berg. Right before I was killed, I would look into the video camera and say, "Hey Dawna, you see what you did to me bitch?!? Sleep well knowing I'm the father of your children and you have to explain to them someday what happened to me!" God bless my children, but my "X" can burn in hell and I'll probably be waiting for her!

This guy was so twisted and disturbed. He picked all four kids up to take shopping (so he told their mother.) Then he took them to a garage that he had been working at and took 2 of them in a back room at a time and told them to sit on the floor on plastic. He told them that "Daddy has a suprise for you." The other 2 children were in another room watching TV really loudly to cover the noise of the gun. Well, he had the other 2 sit back to back and shot one time to kill them both. Then he covered their bodies with the plastic and brought the other 2 into the same room and did the same thing. Apparently he covered the bodies well enough that you could not see them at all. Then like I said before the SOB goes to the PD to turn himself in.

I hate people that kill or hurt kids. I am just evil and could think of sooo many ways that he should die instead of electric chair.

I still think my way is better and it helps the family get some revenge, plus you can make him suffer.

You place him in a tub of cold water, you have a toaster or something plugged into the outlet, through a clapper. Then you have the victims family clap his ass on and clap his ass off. If you clap really fast you can make him suffer some before you give him the final jolt.

Now tell me that isn't a good way to make everybody happy, well except the leftest bleeding heart liberals but who gives a f**k about them anyway.
