Mom Tangles With Cop At Manchester School
link
A police officer was injured when he tried to stop a mother who officers say refused to cooperate as she raced to drop her child off at school this morning.
The woman stopped her vehicle briefly, but then rolled up her window on the policeman's arm and drove 80 feet as he ran alongside to avoid being dragged, according to a police report.
Sol Marie Perez, 32, of 151 School St., faces charges including reckless endangerment, assault on a police officer, traveling too fast in a school zone and two counts of risk on injury to a minor.
Her two children, ages 7 and 13, were in the car with her, according to police, who said Officer Bernie Hallums suffered bruises to his upper right bicep and abrasions to his right hand and wrist.
"It's unfortunate," said Troy Monroe, the principal at Illing Middle School, which on Wednesday put new traffic enforcement policies into effect because of severe congestion in the parking lot on Tuesday, which was the first day of classes. "
The new policy prevents parents and guardians from entering the lot between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m., with police instead directing drivers toward traffic cones designating a drop-off zone on East Middle Turnpike.
However at about 8:12 a.m. -- just as Monroe was beginning his morning announcements -- Perez drove off Middle Turnpike into the school's long, curving driveway at "a high rate of speed," according to the report.
The report said she was told to slow down and that when she became uncooperative, she was asked for her license and registration.
As the officer held his hand in the car awaiting the documentation, the driver said "I don't think so," according to the report, which said she rolled the window up on his arm and began driving as she yelled "I'm not stopping, get off my car."
The report said that when she stopped she said, "Now what?" as the officer freed his arm.
The middle school is about 200 yards from the police station, where Perez was taken and where her bond was set at $50,000.
She is expected to be arraigned today in Superior Court in Manchester.
Hallums, who is a school resource officer at Illing, could not be reached for comment.
Sgt. Christopher Davis said he did not know the status of the children but said that the state Department of Children and Families had been contacted.

This is a good leanring tool....that's why I never reach inside someone's car. I always stand behind the B post, and make them reach back to me.

im glad to hear the officer made it away with only some minor bruises and cuts. This could have turned deadly for both the officer and the driver... and 50,000 bail.... thats it??!!

I'd say everyone involved had a little luck in their cormer that day. The beeotch could've contracted lead poisoning, the kids could have been injured in the process, and the copper could have been squished under the vehicle. I am glad it ended with no one seriously hurt. I hope they make an example out of that beeotch.
I am curious if it was a mini-van? Damn soccer moms.

It doesn't sound like the cop reached into her car on purpose. I hope they nail this Wench big time!
For the morning will come. Brightly will it shine on the brave and true, kindly upon all who suffer for the cause, glorious upon the tombs of heroes. Thus will shine the dawn.

We had a very similar incident a few years back involving a CHP officer (they enforce traffic in unincorporated areas of out county)

See, this is why we need DWS ordinances, and a forfeiture of vehicle law for those caught DWS.

We dallied under
Vine maples and sapling alders
Searched for lady slippers
But instead
Found blackberry riots and
Desiccated branches
An old skid road
Brought ghost ferns and
Hollows filled with
Skunk cabbage
While waves wrapped
Intricate lacings of weeds
'Round mule spinners
His cyanotic eyes
Were hard enough to make
The sun turn tail and
Tender enough to attract me
To his world of illusion
