Police Make Arrest In Connection With Crime

FORT WORTH, Texas -- A Fort Worth woman was attacked and dragged through in a grocery store parking lot after a shopping trip Wednesday.

Helen Andrews, 81, said she went into the Kroger on the 6400 block of Woodstream Trail to buy some stamps and get some cash. On her way out of the store near her car, Andrews was attacked.

"It happened so fast," said Andrews. "I come back to get in my car and I notice this car with its motor running was sitting by me and I thought, 'What are they doing?'"

Suddenly, she said, a man in the back seat reached out and grabbed her purse.

"And then he grabbed my purse, and I thought 'Uh-oh, uh-oh'," said Andrews.

Next thing she knew, she was getting dragged.

"I guess maybe I didn't let loose of it. I guess maybe I tried to hold onto it," said Andrews.

Finally, the attacker got her purse, and the car sped away.

Fort Worth police later arrested a man in connection with the crime. The man was caught allegedly driving a stolen car, similar to the one used in the purse snatching.

Police asked NBC 5 not to show the suspect's face because detectives plan to do a photo line-up with witnesses.

"The information we have lets us be very hopeful were going to make additional arrests," said Lt. Gene Jones of the Fort Worth Police Department.

"Oh, I'm happy so it won't happen to somebody else," said Andrews. "I was raised up in an age where people just didn't do things like that."

Andrews is now home recuperating after suffering a dislocated shoulder and some bumps and bruises from the attack. Andrews said all in all, she feels lucky that she wasn't hurt any worse.
