Chief put on paid leave after arrest
http://www.fairmontsentinel.com/news...articleID=2792SHERBURN — Sherburn-Welcome Police Chief Brad Hughes was put on paid administrative leave Tuesday evening after being arrested for driving while impaired Saturday.
The joint police board — consisting of members of the Welcome and Sherburn city councils — reached the decision under the advisement of legal counsel Jim Wilson.
“He has been put on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the allegations,” Wilson said.
Hughes was arrested in Fairmont on Saturday morning following a complaint of an erratic driver. A Fairmont police officer reportedly found Hughes driving with a blood-alcohol level of .25. Hughes had two small children with him in the vehicle.
Hughes’ bail hearing was held Monday, and bond was posted.
Hughes has been chief of the Sherburn-Welcome police department since the joint effort began in 1999. While an acting police chief has not been named, the police force is following its normal chain of command.
Good to see that the Fairmont officer was able to arrest him. This is a very small, rural area, with lots of "I know so and so" and everybody knows everybody.Alpha Phi Sigma Alum - Alpha Delta Chapter

I still have my reserves about DUI'ing coppers. Especially if there is no accident involved. If there is it is pretty much unhidable.

I have a very strong belief in PC among LEOs....however driving with a BAC over .2 with kids in the car and being a Chief....I think the Officer did the correct thing.
