CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- A 14-year-old boy shot and killed a man who broke into his family's home Monday and threatened to kill him and his mother, Police Chief Bryan Smith said.

Smith said the man, whose name was not immediately known, confronted a woman as she was carrying groceries into her home shortly before 1 p.m.

The man forced her inside and tied her and her son up. Smith said the woman was able to loosen the binding and free her son, who got his father's revolver from a security box beneath a bed.

As the man tried to break into the room where the two were and threatened to kill them both, the teen fired a shot through the door and hit the intruder in the head, Smith said.

Thank God they got him. what a horrifying experience for those two. hope it doesn't screw the kid up mentally.

It's bad enough what this guy did to the kid and his mom. I hope he doesn't wind up with the very justified end on his conscience.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- A teenager in Corpus Christi, Texas, saved his mother and himself by killing a knife-wielding intruder in their home, police said.

Rose Ann Kozlowski had just returned from buying groceries when the man appeared early Monday afternoon. Her son, 14, had come home from school because of illness, the Corpus Christi Caller Times reported.

The intruder took Kozlowski and her son to the master bedroom, tied them up and looted the house, loading the booty into Kozlowski's SUV.

Kozlowski got loose, gave husband's handgun to her son and tried to hold the door against the intruder, who police said "repeatedly threatened to kill them."

As the intruder forced the door open, the boy fired through the crack, hitting him in the head and killing him instantly, Police Capt. John Houston said.

"He took a life-saving measure to save his mother and himself," Houston said.

Police were trying to determine if two men were involved in the crime. Some witnesses reported seeing a car with two men inside cruising slowly through the neighborhood Monday morning.
