Man dead after being tazed. Family cries foul.

A Lincoln Park man is dead after a confrontation with police.

James Simmons, 35, of Lincoln Park died Monday after family members said he was shot with a Taser gun by police five to eight times.

He died at the Indian Village apartments on Old Goddard Road on Monday.

Lincoln Park police held a press conference on Tuesday and said that Simmons was acting wildly and when they tried to examine him, he started kicking and bit an officer's leg.

Police said they shot him with a Taser gun twice.

Family members said they warned police Simmons was physically impaired and using a Taser gun on him would kill him.

Police officers said they did not do anything wrong. "My preliminary review of the incident shows that the officers actions were measured and appropiate for the situation." said Thomas Karnes of the Lincoln Park police department.

Family members said that Simmons was a diabetic and suffered from hallucinations.

Michigan State police are investigating the matter.

A Taser causing a death? I don't think so!!! Now if he was at the edge of a cliff and fell down it after being tased I might say the taser helped him to fall.........

A diabetic on crack who could at any moment have harmed himself or someone else. Had that been the case, and he not been tazed, the blame would still be on police for not doing anything.

oh...and I'm sure that the family discussed with the Police HOW to do their job....ie the family told them a taser would kill the dirt bag??? And I guess he wasn't too "physically impaired" to confront the officers???

Ok I'll settle the law suite that is coming down....here is your $0.25...all the dirt bag was probably worth.....

I know a few officers in the Lincoln Park PD, I will try to keep you guys updated. Everything appears to have been justified and no one is waiting on the beach. I am not exactly sure of the cause of death, other than maybe stupidity.

Here is a simple thought: don't fight with the PO-lice, and you don't have worry about getting tazed, pepper sprayed, being struck w/ an ASP or shot. Hmmm.... I think that covers it.

I agree. If he is so plagued with hallucinations and such, why would you let him wander freely on his own? Makes no sense whatsoever.

He should have been tased

Physical impairment will not cause a death from a taser hit sorry not plausible. Damn people need to use their brains and stop trying to make a quick buck.

or we can leave him there and let the family deal with him. Let them subdue him, restrain him etc. If your so concerned you handle him and when you get hurt don't cry to me.

Could Not have said it better!!!!! What sucks is you have somewhere a blood sucking leach attorney waiting to file a wrongful death suit. But with his medical and health conditions his estimated life value is dirt.

I do up they clear this up and list it as a justified incident ASAP!!

Sorry but diabetics and electric immobilazation devices dont mix. There was a Conn. Inmate in Virginia that dies a few years ago after being popped with a "stun gun". The ME found that there was some relations to the electricity causung a rapid drop in blood sugar or some such.
I cant find the article but I remember the family got $350,000 from the state of Virginia. But in the long run Conn. saved money cause he was serving several life sentences
