Survey proves yankees are smarter....states ranked by intelligence level.
PHOENIX -- When it comes to intelligence, a new survey ranks Arizona dead last among the states.
For the second year in a row, an annual smartest-state ranking puts Arizona in the No. 50 spot.
The list is compiled by Morgan Quitno Press, a private research and publishing company in Kansas that also puts out annual rankings on the most livable, safest and healthiest states.
In the smart-state ranking, Vermont comes in at the top, followed by Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey and Maine.
Arizona is at the bottom, preceded by Nevada, Mississippi, California and Alaska.

Well, at least Alabama isn't last for a change! Although we are closer than last year.

This is something I am glad to see that the south is able to admit. Beat ya again.
And Shepards we shall be,
for thee, My Lord, for thee,
Power hath descended forth from Thy hand,
That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy Command.
So we shall flow a river forth to Thee
And teeming with souls will it ever be.

I wonder what criteria they used to figure that list out?

Here's a link to the list of factors which were considered, which includes a link to a description of the methodology:

I found it even though I'm from California.

Well, looking at that list, I can see why the ratings fell the way they did.
It's based on things like citizen's income, people graduated from high school, teachers salary, etc.
Has anyone told these folks that income, graduates, and teacher salaries don't necessarily mean good things happen in schools? I work at a university and I can tell you flat out that a lot of the Connecticut kids we get are definitely not all that bright. But, when you dumb down the requirements for graduating high school, I guess it's easy to show you have a lot of graduates.
If you don't believe me, I have some written statements I have gotten over the years that would have been better written by my horse (and he doesn't write very well
). Maybe, I'm jaded, but I always thought anyone graduating from high school could actually put a sentence down on paper so it makes sense.
And forget the NJ and NY kids. Actually I've had pretty bad encounters with some of our NH and VT students also. The NY, NJ, MA students are some of our biggest problems. Not that I'm profiling anybody or anything!
We don't get a lot of ME students, so my experience with them is lacking.
I typically find the rare Southern student we get to be our better ones. That's probably because their parents actually will address any problems they may have, so they come here and do what they are suppose to. They even seem to graduate in four years and can actually read and write. My wife says that's because those kids know they'll get a whoppin' if they screw up. I tend to agree with her; they act a lot different.
But, I guess it's just another example of using statistics to get what you want the report to say."When a crime is committed, liberals blame society. Conservatives blame the criminal." -Debra Saunders

We dallied under
Vine maples and sapling alders
Searched for lady slippers
But instead
Found blackberry riots and
Desiccated branches
An old skid road
Brought ghost ferns and
Hollows filled with
Skunk cabbage
While waves wrapped
Intricate lacings of weeds
'Round mule spinners
His cyanotic eyes
Were hard enough to make
The sun turn tail and
Tender enough to attract me
To his world of illusion
