Homeowner in trouble for defending his home and property...
Bail set for alleged shooter
Bail was set at $100,000 without conditions or $50,000 with conditions Monday for a Keewatin man who allegedly shot at officers when they served a search warrant for methamphetamine Friday.
Steven Dale Leathers, 36, is charged with five counts of first-degree assault, and one count each of second-degree and third-degree drug charges.
According to the criminal complaint, filed Tuesday in Itasca County District Court, three deputies and one trooper went to Leathers’ home shortly before 5 p.m. Friday to execute a search warrant. After knocking the door and announcing they were law enforcement several times, they forced the door open. As they did so, they heard a shot.
The bullet ricocheted off the door knob and into a wall. Officers found a loaded .22-caliber handgun in the house. According to the complaint, Leathers said that he thought someone he had had a dispute over drug money with earlier in the day was trying to get into his house.
Conditions for the $50,000 bail amount include keeping court appearances, keeping in contact with his attorney, remain law abiding, using no alcohol or drugs and submitting to random testing, and no firearms. His next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 20.

To all LEO'S, be careful! we almost lost a police officer here in Iowa because of a whacked out drug punk, tryed to run the officer over, the officer fired a fatal shot.. but now because of the dammage to his leg, he had to retire..
so be safe out there guys/gals...

"Homeowner in trouble for defending his home and property..."
Nice headline. We can already see who's side the media is on. If the LEO had a legal warrant, then the dirtbag was wrong. The media could be LEO friendly and say "Police shot at during drug arrest/warrant service", or at least impartial and say "Police fired upon while serving warrant". But oh no, we got to go with the headline that makes the criminal the victim.

the fact that bail of any kind was even offered to this sh**bag is sorry enough to me.

We dallied under
Vine maples and sapling alders
Searched for lady slippers
But instead
Found blackberry riots and
Desiccated branches
An old skid road
Brought ghost ferns and
Hollows filled with
Skunk cabbage
While waves wrapped
Intricate lacings of weeds
'Round mule spinners
His cyanotic eyes
Were hard enough to make
The sun turn tail and
Tender enough to attract me
To his world of illusion
