Officer involved in 2 hour standoff, prompted by a domestic disturbance

A police officer involved Thursday morning in a two-hour standoff, prompted by an alleged domestic disturbance, is already free on bond. According to El Paso police, an officer barricaded himself inside his girlfriend's garage early Thursday morning, which concerned neighbors who have seen a standoff involving law enforcement in their neighborhood before. Residents living on Crystal Ridge said they noticed police blocking off their street at around 1:30 p.m. Thursday, focusing on the home located at 12620 Crystal Ridge. "There were several cop cars, and my husband even witnessed one of the officers going back to the car for his shotgun," said Liz Rosales. Rosales said it was scary, especially when she learned it was allegedly a domestic disturbance involving a police officer. According to police, Enrique Ledesma was off-duty at the time when he barricaded himself inside this garage, which police said belongs to his girlfriend. "Officers responded to that address; he ended up being in the home. We knew he was in the home, he was not coming out of the home and then they made contact with him, and then he voluntarily came out," said Javier Sambrano, spokesman for the El Paso police. Sambrano couldn't say how long the standoff lasted, but KFOX first reported Thursday morning that police blocked off the street for two hours. "We awoke to see the sirens flashing, and we heard, like, the bullhorn and seeing the cops blocking off the entrance and the exit and not letting anybody in," Rosales said. This isn't the first time a domestic dispute has allegedly happened in this far east El Paso neighborhood involving law enforcement. In fact, just a few blocks away, firefighter De Anda was found threatening his wife, a police officer, and that situation turned deadly. Police did not comment on this issue. Rosales said she doesn't feel she lives in a bad neighborhood; instead, she feels these two men should be getting help because of their jobs. "It seems like they should be getting some help because I think they are taking part of their job home. That may be the problem," said Rosales. The situation ended without anyone getting hurt. KFOX has learned Ledesma is a 20-year veteran and was in the criminalistics unit. After the standoff, police arrested Ledesma on a $750,000 bond. By Thursday evening, Ledesma had bonded out, and El Paso police said they have put him on administrative duty pending the outcome of both an administrative and criminal investigation. Ledesma faces only resisting arrest charges at this time. Police said that, if he is found guilty, he could face up to a year in jail or a fine of up to $400,000.
