Police kill 2 suspected gangsters in West Side shooting
Officer wounded, loses finger
By Ben Bradley
October 30, 2006 - A Chicago police officer is recovering after a shooting that killed two suspected gang members and injured a third in the Humboldt Park neighborhood near Augusta and Kedzie at 3:30 p.m. Monday. An assault weapon was recovered at the scene.
Doctors have amputated the officer's middle finger but say he will be OK. He has been on the force 14 years and was part of a gang intelligence unit that, police say, was working to foil what they call an assassination plot.
Police Superintendent Phil Cline was among dozens of officers at Mount Sinai Hospital checking on their injured colleague Monday night. Hours earlier, the 39-year-old gang intelligence officer was part of a team tailing three suspects in a stolen car.
"These offenders are part of a crew that we believe are responsible for a number of homicides and shootings in the 10th and 11th districts in Chicago," said Supt. Phil Cline.
Police say the three men were on their way to kill a rival gang member. At least one of the men was wearing gloves, two were carrying guns, according to police.
When officers curbed the suspects' car, one of the men allegedly pulled an AK-47 from the backseat.
"It was like pop, pop, pop, bam, bam, bam! Just like that. Repeated rapid gunfire," said David Ortiz, witness.
"There was people running. I thought somebody was shot," said Jose Luceno, witness.
Two of the suspects died at the scene. A third is in critical condition at Mount Sinai.
Humboldt Park resident Ortiz is thankful police stopped the gunmen when they did.
"I'm glad they caught 'em before they were able to kill somebody -- maybe some innocent people as well. I'm glad they brought them down," Ortiz said.
The surviving suspect was last listed in critical but stable condition at Mount Sinai. Friends and relatives of that man at one point briefly faced off with police who would not let the large crowd into the emergency room.
Police are not releasing names of the two suspects who died or the third man who remains hospitalized.

The funny thing is this, supposedly when the Superintendant was in visiting the officer that lost his finger the conversation weant as such.
Sup: "Hey kid how you feelin'?
Off: "Good Thanks. Boss can I ask you a question?"
Sup: "Sure what is it?"
Off: "Am I still on the clock? You know, getting paid?"
Sup: "Of course."
Off: "Well then I am doing even better."
The guy has a real good disposistion over it. Granted I would be pissed that I lost my main communication finger, but on the other side I would be ecstatic that Mickey the Mope, and Mickey the Moron were lying on a nice cold slab in the Medical Examiners Office.

This may seem like a bizarre question, but was it his dominant or off hand that was injured? Just wondering if he's going to be able to carry a weapon again.

a job well done. wish the officer a speedy recovery.
but could the officers involved not, instead of shooting the poor misunderstood, down trodding young men, talked to them and let them known that they are special.

Sucks that the officer got injured, minus one finger and all, but it could have been much worse. I am glad he made it out otherwise ok.
Piss on the two dead bastards who shot at him. I hope they rot in hell. As for the third, they should hack off one of his fingers before sending his ass to prison.

Speedy recovery to the officer.
Im sure some liberal bastard of a Lawyer will paint the third member as a fine upstanding member of society that was just a victim of circumstance. To that I say let the liberals take him with them to Antartica...(see other thread) They deserve each other, along with all the Islamic terrosist.

He lost his middle finger on his non shooting hand. All ready treated and released, the thing that would piss me off is that is my major communication finger.
