Chicago Police Charge Woman for Kidnapping Attempt

Off Duty PO Alerted by Victims Sister

Chicago Police charged a woman, Wednesday, who attempted to remove a six year old boy from a South Side Public School playground.

Channel E. Durnham, 25, of Chicago Heights, entered the playground, walked over to the victim, took him by the hand and began to lead him out of the playground when she was observed by the six year old victim's sister. The sister alerted an off-duty officer, assigned to the Calumet (005th) District, who was working security at the school. The off-duty officer quickly responded and detained Durnham until on-duty officers arrived. Durnham was placed under arrest and taken into the Deering (009th) District for processing.

When questioned by police about her actions, she stated she wanted a child of her own.

A felony charge of Aggravated Kidnapping was approved against Durnham who was scheduled for a bond hearing on Wednesday afternoon.
