BRIGHTON - The police department is recommending felony charges be filed against a female high school teacher accused of having an inappropriate sexual encounter with a teenage student.

Teacher accused of sexually assaulting teenager
The Brighton Police Department is recommending felony charges be filed against a female high school teacher accused of having an inappropriate sexual encounter with a teenage student. 9NEWS at 10 p.m. November 8, 2006.
Charges against 29-year-old Carrie McCandless will be forwarded Thursday to the Larimer County District Attorney.
McCandless has been teaching at Brighton Charter High School for more than six years.
However, 9NEWS confirmed Wednesday night the charter's school board has voted to terminate her contract.
McCandless, a Social Studies teacher and cheerleading coach, has been under investigation since late last month.
She is married to the school's principal, Chris McCandless.
Brighton Police say she is accused of having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a 17-year-old male student.
9NEWS has confirmed the alleged incident took place the last weekend in October during a school camping trip in Larimer County.
An employee at the YMCA Estes Park Center says a group from Brighton Charter High was staying there that weekend.
This is the second time in less than a year an adult at Brighton Charter High has been investigated for having an inappropriate relationship with a student.
David Mundy, Jr., 31, used to be a substitute teacher at the school.
He pleaded guilty earlier this year to sex assault on a child and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Police tell 9NEWS the incident involved three girls between the ages of 14 and 16, one of whom Mundy met at the school.
Records show he and the girls admitted to "kissing" and other sexual acts at Mundy's apartment last New Year's Eve.
He faces up to 12 years in prison when he is sentenced in January.
Mundy was a Brighton firefighter at the time of the incident. He resigned in October because of the case.
Mundy also has ties to school management. He is the son of David Mundy, Sr., the chairman of the charter school board of directors.
Mundy, Sr. told 9NEWS because his son was not an employee of the school, the board was not legally required to inform parents about his arrest.
Mundy, Sr. also issued a statement saying: "We want parents to know students are safe and our primary obligation is to educate these kids."
9NEWS and 9NEWS.com will continue to follow any developments in the McCandless case.
Students and staff are expected to be notified of that investigation on Thursday.

I honestly don't see what the appeal is. I'm with Ducky, they are just babies for God sakes. Hell, even the female students don't start looking good at least until 17 or so.

If i had a 15 year old boy at home getting hummers and stuff from the hot teacher and i found out about it I would first make sure that his grades are good in that class and second buy some condoms for the boy...If his grades dont improve I would turn her in....
On the same hand if my daughter was 15 and doing something with a teacher I would show him the business end of my Sig or M16, double standards I know but hey such is life
