Deputy Dennis Wright Down (Georgia)

An Effingham County sheriff's deputy is dead and another seriously injured following an accident on Jimmy Deloach Parkway Friday night.
It happened just after 8pm. Deputy Dennis Wright Sr. and another deputy were traveling eastbound on Jimmy Deloach Parkway. Police say that's when a person driving a minivan tried to make a left-hand turn and slammed into their vehicle.
The driver of the minivan was also seriously injured.
Wright died at the scene. The other deputy and the minivan driver were transported to Memorial Health.
No names have been released. The Georgia State Patrol is handling the investigation.
The two officers were headed from Pooler, where they participated in a Southeastern Traffic Enforcement Network meeting.
