FBI HRT Agent Killed in Live Fire Training

A Federal Bureau of Investigation agent from Wisconsin was killed yesterday while training at Fort A.P. Hill
Supervisory Special Agent Gregory J. Rahoi, 38, was accidentally shot on one of the base ranges.
Rahoi was flown immediately to Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, where he was later pronounced dead.
Both the FBI and the Army will conduct investigations.
According to Fort A.P. Hill spokesman Ken Perrotte, the last training accident at the base involving a fatality from a live-fire exercise was December 2000 when a Marine died in an accident.
According to a press release from the FBI, Rahoi joined the agency in April of 1997 and served with the Hostage Rescue Team for the past six years.
Fort A.P. Hill is a regional training and maneuver center. It regularly hosts about 60,000 soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines annually on live-fire ranges and maneuver land.
Federal agencies affiliated with law enforcement and homeland security also use the training facilities on a regular basis.
Additional information on Special Agent Rahoi or the accident was unavailable last night.
According to the FBI Web site, the Hostage Rescue Team is a full-time, national-level tactical team headquartered at Quantico that trains around the country for a variety of missions, including hostage rescue, mobile assaults, manhunt operations and weapons of mass destruction.
