Aiken County SC Deputy injured
Guys, they've just reported on the news that a deputy in my county is on their way to the hospital after being hit by a car while directing traffic at a fire. It happened about 10 minutes ago. Please keep your fingers crossed that it's not serious. I'm hoping one of the guys on here from that department will check in soon.

He was a good deputy and a good man. He was younger then my kids, he recently made SGt and had recently built a home for his family. His "job" did not require him to go to this fire and help out, at the time of this call he could have just gone 10-42 (home) but the kind of deputy he was he wanted to help out and keep other emergency workers and civi's safe...I don't quote the bible much, but it says to give your life for another is the greatest love....he will sorely be missed.

Police Officers put themselves at risk for strangers every day. Some do not make it home to their families. Next time you think of saying something negative about the police, remember...YOU are one of the strangers.

Guys, thanks for checking in, we were worried about both of you. Please let me know if there's going to be a fund set up for his family, or any other way I could help.

(Aiken County) December 8, 2006 - An Aiken County fire caused a traffic hazard Thursday that ended up costing a deputy his life.
The sheriff says the fire was taking place at BAE Industrial Park at Highway One and and Windham Boulevard in Aiken and a deputy was directing traffic due to the fire. The officer was struck by a car.
Sergeant Jason L. Sheppard, 29, was airlifted to a nearby hospital. Shortly before midnight, doctors at the Medical College of Georgia, in Augusta, pronounced Deputy Sheppard dead.
A news release states the deputy suffered a critical head injury in the accident.
No one was hurt in the fire, which has been put out. It began in the ventilation system. Plant Manager Mike Eaton says it took two hours to get the blaze under control after it started at about 4:30pm.
Eaton says the plant was filled with smoke and officials decided to close until at least Friday morning.
BAE systems makes components for military Bradley tanks. After they cut certain pieces of metal they dip them in an acid bath.
Sergeant Sheppard has been employed by ACSO since July 30, 2004. In October, he was promoted to his current position in the agency's Civil Process section.
He is survived by his wife, Shelley.
Sergeant Sheppard is the first ACSO deputy to die in the line of duty in more than 15 years. On March 6, 1990, Deputy Charles Freeman died as a result of injuries suffered during a fight with a subject.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.
"Jason dedicated his professional life to law enforcement, and his personal life to God, his family and love of music," said Sheriff Michael Hunt. Although deeply scarred by this tragedy, we are a strong agency, a tight family and we will get through this."

RIP
