San Francisco PD Officer Down

Incident happened Dec 22nd. Officer pronounced dead on Dec 23rd. Thankfully other Officers were able to kill the suspect because the SF DA doesn't charge with death (even when officers are killed).

SAN FRANCISCO — A police officer died early Saturday after being shot in a gunfight in the city's Sunset District that also left a suspected fugitive dead, police said.

Bryan Tuvera, a 4 1/2 -year department veteran, was taken to the emergency room at San Francisco General Hospital on Friday night and pronounced dead just after midnight.

"Tragically, he died from his injuries," said San Francisco Police Chief Heather Fong.

The incident began about 8:15 p.m. as Tuvera, 28, and his partner tried to serve a felony warrant on a suspect described as armed and dangerous.

The two officers chased the suspect on foot to a garage, where the suspect fired at them, shooting Tuvera in the head, police said. The second officer returned fire. The suspect, wanted for escaping from a correctional facility, died at the scene. He was identified as 33-year-old Marlon Ruff.

Tuvera came from a family with deep roots in the city's Police Department. His late father was a department dispatcher, and both his wife and father-in-law are San Francisco police officers, a department official said.

"We extend our deepest condolences to the officer's family and to the officer's friends," Fong said. "Our department has suffered the loss of another officer who put his life on the line to protect the people of our great city."

Tuvera is the third San Francisco Police Department officer to die this year in the line of duty.
