Dorchester Sheriff's Deputy killed in car wreck

(Harleyville) March 9, 2007 - A Dorchester County Sheriff's deputy is one of two people confirmed dead in an afternoon car crash.

The collision happened right around 5:00pm on Interstate 26 near Harleyville, near exit 170.

According to the Highway Patrol, a man driving a truck crossed a median and hit the Sheriff's deputy's vehicle head on.

The truck driver, the Sheriff's deputy - 38-year-old Corporal Phillip Michael Deese - and the a police dog inside were all killed. The wreck involved five cars.

Deese worked for the Dorchester Sheriff's Department since 2001. He is survived by his wife and three children.
