Well I was doing something that I rarely do...watching the news. I just happen to catch that the guy that shot Garcia was found in a house, the house was surrounded and unfortunatlly the asshole gave up without a fight. He is now in custody.

The good news is he is now off the streets. The bad news is he is alive will probably get just a few years for what he has done. Am I correct, or will he be looking at alot of time there in LA?

His exposure (from my understanding of the incident details) is that of Attempted First Degree Murder (police officer in lawful discourse), which is punishable by 1/2 of life without benefit. (Attempt is 1/2 time for the crime and of course rules out capital penalties). Given the age of the suspect, I would expect that to be around 25 years. It is interesting to note that if the charge falls to Attempt Second Degree Murder (distinction being the removal of aggravating felony or police officer discourse of duties), the time exposure remains the same, 1/2 life without benefit. Additional charges (Disarming, Resisting, Battery on Officer, etc.) can all be expected to go away should the guy plea out on the major charge. Originally Posted by BigDawg3533
This is how I would guess it will play out given the information I have, and the historic context of officer shootings in LA. I have been wrong before though. Given the target was a trooper, I would certainly expect that the DA will go full throttle, at least at first.
