BREAUX BRIDGE, La. (AP) -- A man stopped for a traffic violation shot a state trooper during a fight early Thursday, starting a manhunt by three state police troops and St. Martin Parish sheriff's deputies.
The officer, whose name was not released, was being treated for a moderate injury, said Trooper Will Williams, spokesman for state police Troop I in Lafayette.
Williams said the rented 2007 Chrysler Sebring which the officer had stopped at the foot of the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge near Henderson was found in St. Martin Parish, and police were hunting for Tyrone Dwayne Mack, 37.
He is considered armed and dangerous. anyone who sees him should call police or the sheriff's office rather than approaching him, Williams said.
Williams would not say what moving violation Mack was stopped for, and did not know whether he has a police record.
