Two people, including a Fort Smith police officer, were killed in a shootout Friday night.Police were called to 424 S. U St. at about 10 p.m. Daniel Martinez, 33, was at the home, standing by as Donna Stevens, 22, removed her personal belongings from the home.Sgt. Jarrard Copeland said Martinez was shot from behind, outside the residence. He was taken to Sparks Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.Friends said Martinez had just started working at the Fort Smith Police Department last year and was once the police chief in Wister, Okla., and Shady Point, Okla.
