Four Deputies Shot In Madison County Standoff
POSTED: 11:42 am CDT April 27, 2007
UPDATED: 3:37 pm CDT April 27, 2007
MADISON COUNTY, Miss. -- Four deputies were shot Friday in a standoff with a gunman in northern Madison County.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol reported it was helping the Madison County Sheriff Department at a house off Highway 51 when Roosevelt Wilson barricaded himself inside and opened fire.
Wilson was accused of shooting and killing Billy McMullen on Friday morning, and officers were trying to serve a warrant for his arrest.
McMullen was found in a field off Loring Road in northern Madison County. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
According to witnesses, McMullen had been renting property from Wilson, and they'd had several arguments over hunting and the use of pesticides on the property.
The Madison County Sheriff's Department called its SWAT team to the scene, and MHP requested seven extra units to respond to the scene.
The injured deputies were hospitalized, officials said.Last edited by Cidp24; 04-27-07 at 08:12 PM.

Thanks Cidp, there may not be much we can do, but even letting them know we're thinking about them can help.

Missed the news and just read the post. How badly were they hurt and what happened with the suspect?

Three Madison County Deputies Wounded
A 79 year old male shot a farmer who leased land from him early this morning in Madison County Mississippi. The shooter retreated to his home and when confronted he opened fire. The sheriff's swat unit was called in and when they approached the house the old guy came out shooting and three deptuies were wounded, one seriously. The 79 year old died in the exchange of gun fire. The farmer who was shot earlier in the morning later died.
Two of the deputies were treated and released but the third is in serious condition. I will post thier names later when I get a chance.

i am wondering why this guy snapped?
http://www.allpoetry.com/Grunts%20Girl
We dallied under
Vine maples and sapling alders
Searched for lady slippers
But instead
Found blackberry riots and
Desiccated branches
An old skid road
Brought ghost ferns and
Hollows filled with
Skunk cabbage
While waves wrapped
Intricate lacings of weeds
'Round mule spinners
His cyanotic eyes
Were hard enough to make
The sun turn tail and
Tender enough to attract me
To his world of illusion

Keep us updated, Cidp. If there is anything we can do, let us know. Also, if you could, sir, pass on all of our well wishes here. And Shepards we shall be,
for thee, My Lord, for thee,
Power hath descended forth from Thy hand,
That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy Command.
So we shall flow a river forth to Thee
And teeming with souls will it ever be.

I will pass on best wishes.
The most serious deputy came through surgery to have his femoral artery repaired fine and he is resting comfortably. One of the others has a round lodged in his leg above the knee, the other has a through and through near his knee and a glancing wound to his shoulder thought to be caused by a richochet off his vest.
VERY preliminary details are that the weapon the suspect used was a .22 rifle and that the wounds were recieved while attempting to rescue three other Deputies that were pinned down near the house and had been pinned there for several hours. The suspect died in the exchange. Again that info is VERY preliminary and not confirmed.
One of the other deputies involved but not injured worked for us before going to the S O. He was a trainee of mine when I was an FTO and a close friend still. Please include him in your prayers because this big hearted, kind deputy is going to need them to get through the next few months. He will have a few paid admin leave days after this. Those of you who are verified LEO will know why. This is his second heroic incident. In the first, within his first year out of the academy, he and some other officers went onto the porch of a house in which an armed barricaded subject was hiding to retrieve the body of a dead officer. They did not know he was dead. This kid has more character and love for others than any officer I know.
He was not alone in his heroism, they all were heros yesterday.
Thanks for the concern.
