WI Deputy Down
A Kenosha County, Wis., sheriff's deputy was shot and killed overnight during a routine traffic stop, CLTV reported.
The deputy had pulled over a van for a traffic violation in the town of Somers near the University of Wisconsin-Parkside campus just before midnight, according to the sheriff's department.
A man in the van apparently shot the officer, then ran off, leaving the van behind, authorities said.
A Parkside police officer serving as back-up radioed in that shots had been fired and that a deputy was down. The suspect was arrested just after 2:30 a.m. at an apartment complex about a half mile from the shooting. The manhunt involved a helicopter and a half-dozen police dogs.
The identify of the officer and further details were not immediately available.
A press conference is scheduled for later this morning.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the officer and their family. Once again, a "routine" traffic stop ends in tragedy. Another horrible reminder that there is nothing "routine" in our line of business.
For the morning will come. Brightly will it shine on the brave and true, kindly upon all who suffer for the cause, glorious upon the tombs of heroes. Thus will shine the dawn.

Yes Keith there is no such thing as "routine" traffic stop. There is known risk and unknown risk traffic stops. Known risk being considered a felony stop, and unknow risk being considered a misdemeanor stop.

Police Officers put themselves at risk for strangers every day. Some do not make it home to their families. Next time you think of saying something negative about the police, remember...YOU are one of the strangers.

Sheriff David Beth says Deputy Frank Fabiano, Junior was shot in the face by a man who was arrested after a three-hour manhunt.
Fabiano was an 18-year veteran of the sheriff's department, was married and had a 7-year-old daughter.
The 48-year-old deputy stopped a van shortly before midnight for a minor violation in the Town of Somers.
Beth says the deputy and suspect got out of their vehicles and Fabiano was shot. A UW Parkside officer arrived on the scene as a backup and fired shots at the suspect.
Two helicopters and police dogs helped search for the suspect.
Beth says citizen tips helped authorities pin down the man's location. He was found hiding behind some parked cars in an apartment complex.
The sheriff says Fabiano had been awarded a Purple Heart for an injury suffered while responding to a domestic disturbance call in Paddock Lake in 1991.

I've met Frank, my prayers will be with him and his family. A friend is going to send me an address where any who wish to, can send cards, etc. I'm not sure, but I was told the news conference is supposed to be today (Friday, the 18th).
The Channel 12 website www.themilwaukeechannel.com is going to broadcast the news conference at 10:00.Light moves faster than sound. That's why some people look intelligent..until they speak.

i am saddened to hear of this.
glad they got him
many thoughts to his family and friendshttp://www.allpoetry.com/Grunts%20Girl
We dallied under
Vine maples and sapling alders
Searched for lady slippers
But instead
Found blackberry riots and
Desiccated branches
An old skid road
Brought ghost ferns and
Hollows filled with
Skunk cabbage
While waves wrapped
Intricate lacings of weeds
'Round mule spinners
His cyanotic eyes
Were hard enough to make
The sun turn tail and
Tender enough to attract me
To his world of illusion
