Corrections Officer Found Shot To Death
BALTIMORE -- A Baltimore city corrections officer was found shot to death early Friday morning at his home.
Police said Lt. Perry Brook, 48, was found dead by his 12-year-old grandson in his car under the carport of his home in the 1900 block of Hillen Road around 2:30 a.m. Friday.
He was killed by a single gunshot wound to the head, officials told WBAL TV 11 News reporter Kerry Cavanaugh.
Brooks worked his last shift Monday night. Police said they haven't ruled out that his slaying may have been related to his job.
Police said the window in Brook's car was slightly ajar when he was found, leading them to believe he may have lowered it right before he was shot.
Robbery was ruled out as a motive because nothing appeared to have been taken, authorities said.
Brooks was a 20-year veteran of the facility who oversaw the release of prisoners for most of his years there. Friends said they didn't know of any threats made against him.
"The Baltimore Central Booking and Intake Center has lost one of its most well-liked and professional officers," said Maj. David Becketts, Brooks' supervisor at Central Booking. "Lt. Brooks exemplified the model correctional officer. He rarely complained, and went about his duties with diligence and vigor to get the job done and make sure his staff was safe."

Whether it was job related or not, it's still a extremely sad situation... especially to be found by a 12-year old.

We dallied under
Vine maples and sapling alders
Searched for lady slippers
But instead
Found blackberry riots and
Desiccated branches
An old skid road
Brought ghost ferns and
Hollows filled with
Skunk cabbage
While waves wrapped
Intricate lacings of weeds
'Round mule spinners
His cyanotic eyes
Were hard enough to make
The sun turn tail and
Tender enough to attract me
To his world of illusion
