Police officer in critical condition after crash
by George Berkin, Mon, 9:55 PM
An Englewood police officer responding to a call was listed in critical condition tonight, several hours after his motorcycle collided with a van, officials said.
Officer Doug Menist, 45, was injured at about 2 p.m. when a van pulling out of a Van Nostrand Avenue driveway hit his motorcycle, police said.
A married father of two and a 15-year veteran of the department, Menist was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition, police and a nursing supervisor said.
The driver of the van also was injured, but police declined to release details on the driver's name, age or injuries.

Police Officers put themselves at risk for strangers every day. Some do not make it home to their families. Next time you think of saying something negative about the police, remember...YOU are one of the strangers.
