Officer Christopher Mirabal Down (New Mexico)
ALAMOGORDO, N.M. --
Early Thursday morning, New Mexico state police confirmed one of their own died in a crash on an Alamogordo road.
A state police spokesman said Officer Christopher Mirabal ran into a curb on North Scenic Avenue, lost control of his state-issued motorcycle and crashed into a parked tractor-trailer.
Next month would have been Mirabal's third anniversary on the state's motorcycle unit. He graduated from the state police academy in 1998.
Officer Mirabal is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

Police Officers put themselves at risk for strangers every day. Some do not make it home to their families. Next time you think of saying something negative about the police, remember...YOU are one of the strangers.
