A Jefferson Parish deputy was wounded responding to a domestic disturbance in Terrytown Thursday evening, a spokesman for the Jefferson Pairsh Sheriff's Office confirmed
The deputy, whose name has not been released, was taken to Ochsner Meadowcrest Hospital in undisclosed condition.
The deputy was one of several officers responding to a domestic dispute call in the 200 block of Southwood Drive when they were confronted with gunfire.
A parish SWAT team is at the scene where the gunman is believed to be baricaded in a home. Police believe the man is alone.
They have confirmed that approx. 90 minutes after the incident the deputy died from a gun shot wound to the chest.

Jefferson Parish officials said a deputy was shot and killed in Terrytown on Thursday night, a day after he got engaged to his fiancee.

Deputy Joshua Norris was responding to a disturbance call on the 200 block of Southwood Drive in Gretna when he was shot.
He was taken to Meadowcrest Hospital, where he later died of a gunshot wound to his chest. Norris was wearing a bulletproof vest, officials said, but the bullet hit him on the side.
Norris had gotten engaged to his 21-year-old fiancee on the Fourth of July, sources said.
According to Jefferson Parish Deputy Chief Newell Normand, Norris joined the sheriff's office in August 2006. He was 24 years old and had been with a training officer until about four days before his death.
The suspect, 21-year-old Antonio Luke, has barricaded himself inside the home, officials said. Neighbors are being evacuated, and several nearby streets are closed.
Still unfolding,suspect is holed up in his residence-SWAT on scene.

0130 07/06/2007 SUSPECT IN CRITICAL CONDITION WITH SELF INFLICTED GUNSHOT WOUND TO HEAD.SWAT LOCATED HIM ON THE BATHROOM FLOOR.
