Livingston deputy dies in wreck Sunday night

WALKER – A Livingston Parish Sheriff’s deputy died in a head-on collision on La. 447 Sunday night, Sheriff Willie Graves confirmed from the scene.
Deputy Ben Smith, 32, of Walker was on a personal motorcycle when it struck an automobile around 9:30 p.m., the sheriff said.
Smith, who was married but had no children, was assigned to civil processing and previously had worked at the Sheriff’s firing range, Graves said.
Though Smith had received motorcycle training, he had never been assigned to the sheriff’s motorcycle division, Graves said.
The Sheriff said Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident is being investigated by State Police and no further details were available shortly before midnight. No information on the occupants of the automobile was available.Wise men stand behind me, brave men stand beside me, but only fools stand against me.
