Drunk driver hits officer at accident
Police: DWI suspect hit officer at accident

SLAUGHTER A suspected drunken driver drove his car through an accident scene Saturday night, striking and causing serious injuries to a reserve police officer, Police Chief Walter S. Smith Jr. said.
Smith said Officer Earl Newman, 33, had surgery Thursday in an attempt to repair bones in his shoulder shattered on impact with the car.
His shoulder was crushed, but the doctors think his (protective) vest saved him from serious internal injuries, the police chief said.
State troopers, who investigated the incident, booked the driver, Seal Wilson, 68, at the East Feliciana Parish Prison with driving while intoxicated and vehicular injury, Smith said.
Smith said an 18-wheeler, in attempting to back up shortly before 10 p.m. on the shoulder of La. 19 in Slaughter, accidentally ran into the front of a building.
A Slaughter Fire Department truck parked in front of the building, with its red lights flashing, while Newman parked across the highway in a patrol car with its blue lights flashing, Smith said.
Newman was crossing the two-lane road on foot when Wilson, 4262 La. 956, Ethel, allegedly barreled between the emergency vehicles without braking, and the car struck the officer, throwing him into the windshield and over the car, Smith said.
In addition to the shoulder injury, Newman sustained lacerations and torn ligaments in his knee.
He remained in the hospital Friday.
Newman had been working as a volunteer with the Police Department for about a month and is interested in a law enforcement career.
He put in a lot of time with us. Hes really dedicated, Smith said.Wise men stand behind me, brave men stand beside me, but only fools stand against me.
The force that propels you to prevail when you are put to a test of survival will be a mindset that refuses to accept nothing but winning.
Too often, we lose sight of life's simple pleasures. Remember, when someone annoys you it takes 42 muscles in your face to frown, BUT, it only takes 4 muscles to reach out and bitch slap that motherf*cker upside the head.

They should ban drunks like that from driving for life before the next person they hit is killed.
Hope the officer recovers soon.Public conscience message board

Y'all are sooooo correct.
Recently, a DUI hit a woman, backed up and hit her AGAIN.
He wasn't booked because he had injuries and refused medical treatment, and the jail wouldn't accept him until he had been medically cleared. Suspect was released on a misdemeanor summons for DUI-drugs, careless operation and hit-and-run driving.

I hope the Officer makes a quick and full recovery...Calm Like A Bomb...

There should be a law made that if a DUI driver hits anyone during an emergency situation the violation is higher, actually in any situation, if a LEO is injured as a result of a DUI it should be higher. I would hope in other states also but in FL Battery on an LEO is a degree higher than Battery charges. It should be across the board on all charges. Protect those that protect others!
