Policeman dies after road crash
A policeman was killed in West Lothian when he was knocked down while investigating an earlier road accident.
A spokesman for Lothian and Borders Police said the 39-year-old was hit by a van in West Main Street, Broxburn, at about 0700 GMT on Saturday.
Accident investigators from another force have been called in to carry out an inquiry into what happened and pass the findings to the procurator fiscal.
The victim's name was not being released until his family were told.
Road closed
Police said the van driver would not be interviewed until he had recovered from the shock he suffered.
The road was closed and diversions were set up.
The policeman was hit as he examined the scene of an accident which had happened four hours earlier, when a car collided with three parked vehicles.
Police investigating the crash want to trace the driver of a BMW.
