Two Palm Beach, FL Deputies Killed
FYI: AP story on 2 Palm Beach Co. deputies killed this morning
PAHOKEE, Fla. (AP) -- Two Palm Beach County Sheriff's deputies were killed early Wednesday by a speeding car they were trying to stop, authorities said.
The deputies were putting stop sticks on the highway when they were hit by the car at about 1:45 a.m. Their names were not immediately available. A third deputy was being treated at a hospital for head wounds.
Police are looking for two suspects who fled from the vehicle after it struck the deputies. At least 75 officers were combing the canefields between Pahokee and Belle Glade, where the suspects are believed to be.
"We believe we have (the suspects) contained, but it's a very large area to search, thick and dense," said Sheriff Ric Bradshaw. Police had been chasing the car, which was believed to be stolen. It's unclear how exactly the crash unfolded.
"Somewhere in the transition of the vehicle being stopped by the stop sticks and the deputies approaching the stop sticks, there was a traffic incident involving our two deputies, and that's where the fatalities occurred," Bradshaw said. The deputies are the latest South Florida law enforcement victims this year.
Broward Deputy Paul Rein, 76, was killed Nov. 7 while transporting a suspect to court. Michael Mazza, 40, is jailed after being charged in the slaying. Broward Sgt. Chris Reyka, 51, was fatally shot as he was looking for stolen vehicles behind a drug store Aug. 10. His killer is still being sought.
In September, a Miami-Dade County police officer, Jose Somohano, was fatally shot by a suspect who ambushed him and three other officers with an assault weapon. The suspect was killed by officers hours later in Broward.

watching it on the news here...
so tragic
geesh....http://www.allpoetry.com/Grunts%20Girl
We dallied under
Vine maples and sapling alders
Searched for lady slippers
But instead
Found blackberry riots and
Desiccated branches
An old skid road
Brought ghost ferns and
Hollows filled with
Skunk cabbage
While waves wrapped
Intricate lacings of weeds
'Round mule spinners
His cyanotic eyes
Were hard enough to make
The sun turn tail and
Tender enough to attract me
To his world of illusion

Once again I am appalled at the loss of brethren in a senseless manner of violence. May these deputies rest in peace. We thank them for their courageous service. St Michael has two more soldiers at his side.
Be courteous to all, but intimate with few, and let those few be well tried before you give them your confidence.

Struck by another patrol car apparently, not by the suspects. Tragic workplace fatality.

I feel for the families, friends, co-workers...I can't imagine what the poor K9 deputy must feel like. This is just so tragic in so many ways. God help us. South Florida has turned into a cesspool.
