Officer Smith was struck and killed by an vehicle being operated by an intoxicated driver.

Officer Smith and other police officers from the Tamuning/Tumon station were responding to a fight at a club in Tumon at 0300 hours. When they arrived, Officer Smith began to park his police motorcycle in front of the Fiesta Resort exit when he was struck by a vehicle.

Officer Smith was transported to Guam Memorial Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

The suspect fled the location, but was later apprehended. She was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, vehicular homicide, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, failure to yield to emergency vehicles and driving without a license.
