Birmingham Officer Suicide
Officer Commits Suicide.
Last night, a Birmingham Police Officer committed suicide in Fultondale. I trained Officer Desmon Gray when he was in the Police Academy in Birmingham in 2001. I now work for Fultondale. I don't have an official report yet, but the early news is that he was in trouble with a woman and decided to take his life. He had been talking with another officer on the cell phone just prior, and BPD was trying to triangulate his cell location. They heard the shotgun go off when they walked up the hill to where his truck was parked. He shot himself with birdshot in the mouth. I will post the news report when it comes out.
This makes two officers dead this week that I had trained.

Tough week for you Sunffy. I try to not read the officer down posts, but these two hitting so close to home were hard not to. I know it's trite, but my thoughts are with you again. Prayers enroute.

Snuffy my thoughts to you during this tough week.
It is so sad anytime a LEO gets to the point in life that the only answer that makes sense to them is to take their own life.
Please lets all take care of ourselves and each other.

One only wonders what might could have been done (if anything) to prevent this. Very sad. I've lost a friend that was a veteran officer who took his life, also a former officer I knew took his after some troubled times in his life, and an academy classmate that took his life with a year or less on the job over a love life problem. All 3 were good guys.

Snuffy, I'm very sorry to hear of your loss and I'll keep you, his family, his friends, & the department he worked for in my prayers as all of you grieve and heal from the loss of officer Desmon Gray.
The following links were ones I have passed along too many survivors as they went through their recovery. In hopes it took them to another day and each day there after became a bit brighter for them. Maybe you can pass them along. You never know when one of these may actually save a life.
Suicide: Read This First
A reason... to live or to die.
A Smile
A smile cost nothing, but gives so much.
It enriches those who receive it,without making poorer those who give.It takes but a moment, but the memoryof it sometimes lasts forever.
None is so rich or mighty that hecan get along without it,and none is so poor but thathe can be made rich by it.
A smile creates happiness in the home, fosters goodwill in business, and is the countersign of friendship.
It brings rest to the weary, cheer to the discouraged, sunshine to the sad,and it is nature's best antidote for trouble.
Yet it cannot be bought, begged, borrowed,or stolen, for it is something that is of novalue to anyone until it is given away.
Some people are too tired to give you a smile.Give them one of yours, as none needs a smileso much as he who has no more to give.
