Wow, that was a freak accident. RIP Brother
It is better to be tried by 12, than carried by 6.

I talked to a friend of mine that worked with this Trooper and he said that they didnt know at first where the gunshot came from. He said that at first everyone there thought it was a tire blow out. With out a doubt the weirdest line of duty death I have heard of.

What kind of "firearm" was it? I'm assuming he had his vest on.

According to a VSP officer on another site it was a high power rifle and the bullet struck him in the armpit.

R.I.P my fallen brother.
Being the best is not what always counts. What counts is always trying your best.
Remember who you are, and where you came from. That way you never get a big head.
May those that lost their lives in 9-11 RIP, for the things you did not many could do. You left so many behind so that you could save so few. For now we stand strong as one, and will not look back till the fight is done. (me)

Services for trooper
Funeral service to be held for Virginia State Trooper killed
From NBC12 News
Monday, February 20, 2006
Funeral services for a Virginia State Trooper killed over the weekend will take place on Wednesday. Kevin Manion, 27, was shot in the chest Saturday when a gun inside an overturned pickup truck discharged as the vehicle was moved.
The man and woman inside the truck face alcohol-related charges. The man is also charged with weapon possession by a convicted felon. The driver has been identified as David Ellis Ferrebee, 58, of Charles Town, West Virginia and passenger, Belinda K. Brown, 38, of Summit Point, W.Va.
In honor of Trooper Manion, his police cruiser and a wreath have been placed in front of the Virginia State Police Office in Winchester. Citizens and police officers have been putting flowers at the site in tribute.
Manion became a trooper in October of 2002 and transferred to the Winchester area from Prince William County last July. He attended college in Clifton Forge and in Fredericksburg.
