CAMP PENDLETON – A Santa Ana police officer was shot in the head at Camp Pendleton Thursday during a routine SWAT training exercise at the Marine base, authorities said.
The officer's injuries are not considered life threatening, according to Santa Ana police spokesman Jose Gonzalez.
About 30 Santa Ana SWAT officers were training Thursday afternoon with live ammunition, but Gonzalez did not know the details of the exercise.
He said “equipment failure” led to the officer's injury, but could not describe what type of failure occurred. “The only thing I can say is the investigation is ongoing,” Gonzalez said.
The base will also investigate the shooting, said spokesman Marine 1st Lt. Ken Kunze.
He said outside organizations frequently use the base's numerous firing ranges for training.Molly Weasley makes Chuck Norris eat his vegetables.
