IMPD Officer shot, critically wounded
http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dl...1803/807110438
I have known Jason for about 4 years since meeting him in an accident investigator school. We have worked the same district ever since, just different shifts. I don't know him that well, but to me he seems like a great guy. I know he is well-liked by the guys he works with.
The turd that shot him was wanted for beating and shooting a 69 year old man to death during a home-invasion robbery. Theres talk that his shitbag dad was involved as well. Dad has also been convicted of murder, why he's out I have no idea.

Terrible news. Heard about it at the station up here in SB right after it happened. All of our thoughts and prayers are with Jason and his family. I hear its pretty grim.

Update
I saw this and thought you guys (and gals) would like an update.
By Jon Murray
The Indianapolis Star
INDIANAPOLIS — The condition of a police officer who was shot in the head last week has improved slightly, an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department spokesman said this morning.
Sgt. Matthew Mount said in a statement that doctors at Wishard Memorial Hospital have upgraded Officer Jason A. Fishburn's status from "guarded critical stable" to "critical stable."
" 'Guarded' referred to the possiblity that anything could occur at any moment which would throw his condition into a tailspin towards fatal," the statement says.
Mount also said Fishburn, while still heavily sedated, has responded to physical tests and has occasionally breathed on his own even though he still is on a ventilator. Doctors are gradually decreasing the sedation level, the statement says.
Here is Mount's full statement:
"Officer Jason Fishburn's status has been changed from Guarded Critical Stable to Critical Stable. 'Guarded' referred to the possiblity that anything could occur at any moment which would throw his condition into a tailspin towards fatal.
"His doctor has stated that Jason is in a HEAVILY sedated state. They are VERY slowly lowering that sedation to check his bodies reaction to the newer levels as they do so. As stated earlier, Jason has responded to physical stimuli, pain and reflex, and will continue to be tested for his ability to respond to different stimuli such as response to verbal command, as the sedation levels are lowered.
"Although he is on a ventilator, Jason has drawn a breath or two per minute on his own at different times.
"His family, friends and department members continue to provide support and prayers and express gratitude for all of the thoughts that have been expressed and prayers that have been offered on Jason's behalf. The road to recovery will be a long one, but hope continues without falter."

Update on Officer Fishburn - Since being shot, Jason has made what the doctors call incredible progress in his recovery. He was in a medically-induced coma for a few days and his survival was in question, but since being brought out of the coma he has come a long way. He has consistently responded to commands from doctors and has been able to squeeze the hands of friends and family members. A short time ago I believe they had him up and walking, and yesterday he was able to speak, telling family members he wanted to go fishing. He was also able to count and recite the alphabet. He has also been moved to one of the local rehab centers for continued treatment. I don't know if he will ever be able to return to his duties as an IMPD officer, but his progress is encouraging.
