Officer ambushed
A local Police Offficer apparently was the victim of an ambush early yesterday (Monday) morning.
He was responding to a dumpster fire, and on arrival, was shot in the back with what is being described as a high power rifle. He was wearing his vest, but the round penetrated it.

The Officer is still in ICU, but alert and talking.
This happened in the next Parish (County) over from me.
It is the second OIS in that Parish within two weeks.
The other incident involved a Sheriff's Deputy who was shot in the face on arrival at what was supposed to be a burglary in progress call, but turned out to be a DV situation. The 75 year-old shooter is in custody in that case.
Here's the story on this one:

This Deputy is OK and was treated and released from the hospital.
Prayers sent for both.
It's getting more and more dangerous out there folks.

"It's a great life. You risk your skin catching killers and the juries turn them loose so they can come back and shoot at you again. If your honest , your poor your whole life. And , In the end , you wind up dying all alone on some dirty street. For what? For nothing. For a tin star."
Far from being a handicap to command, compassion is the measure of it. For unless one values the lives of his soldiers and is tormented by their ordeals , he is unfit to command.

My thoughts and prayers are out to the officers and their families.

Wishing him a complete recovery!
Hopefully his vest slowed the bullet down enough to make it a temporary injury.

Wednesday morning update.
The Sheriff says that they now have a "person of interest" in the shooting.
Appears the officer had received threats recently, and the person supposedly owns a rifle of the same type and caliber (.30-30) that the officer was shot with.
It was definitely a setup, since the PD had received phone calls earlier making sure that particular officer was working that night.
This is a small town, and they only have one officer working the road at a time.
The officer is currently listed as critical but stable.
Barring complications, it looks like he's going to make it.
