January 21, 2009
An 18-year veteran of the Anoka County Sheriff's Office collapsed and died shortly after reporting for work this morning.
Sheriff's officials said that Deputy Eugene (Tony) Fitzloff, 50, of Brooklyn Park, had shown up to start his patrol shift at the Ham Lake substation at 6:30 a.m. Just before 7 a.m., he was found unresponsive next to his squad car by a city public works employee. Fitzloff was taken by ambulance to Unity Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. No foul play is suspected.
Fitzloff is survived by two adult sons.
