Deputy Down, Hendry Co FL
HENDRY COUNTY: A Hendry County deputy was killed in what the Florida Highway Patrol calls a "freak accident" Tuesday morning.
Sergeant Michael Lee Horne, 45, was going off shift and had arrived at his home off Evans Road around 6 a.m.
Troopers say for some reason he failed to stop at a gate in the driveway. Horne's vehicle went through the gate and hit a garage or utility building.
Neighbor Beatrice Quintanilla says she came out to see a gaping hole in the garage and Horne's car crushed.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Horne was a 10-year veteran of the force. He had just been promoted three weeks ago.
He leaves behind two daughters, ages 9 and 11

How tragic! It sounds to me like he had some kind of medical issue before the car ever struck anything. What a terrible day for those children.
