Philadelphia police officer shot dead
Published: Feb. 13, 2009 at 10:25 PM
PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- A Philadelphia police officer was shot and killed Friday night after he responded to a call about two cab drivers having an argument, officials said.
The officer was identified as John Pawlowski, who, nine months ago, disarmed a man wearing a bullet-proof vest and carrying a gun on a city bus, WTXF-TV reported. He was the sixth police officer in the city to be killed in the line of duty in 16 months.
Pawlowski's wife is pregnant with the couple's first child, the report said.
Police sources told WTXF that Pawlowski and other officers responded to a call from a taxi driver who was in an argument with another cabbie in the northwest section of the city. The other driver threatened to shoot a police officer if they were called to the scene, the sources said.
The officers with Pawlowski shot a suspect, wounding him. Another police officer narrowly escaped a bullet that went through his clothes but did not hit him.
Pawlowski was assigned to the 35th district. In October 2007, another 35th district officer, Chuck Cassidy, was mortally wounded when he walked into a robbery at a Dunkin' Donuts.

What in the world is going on in Philly and Chicago. This is unreal.
I sure hope someone is helping the officers wife so that she doesn't miscarry.
My condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the fallen. Be safe out there, all.
