Remembering a Fallen Officer
Remembering Deputy Michael Shannon, E.O.W., March 7, 2003
(this was a letter to a local paper)
Saturday, March 7th, marks the sixth year of Deputy Michael Shannon’s End of Watch. He was murdered responding to a call. It is difficult to find words to express the sadness and loss we feel.
Deputy Shannon served Adams County for nearly eight years. He was a valuable member of our community and his loss is still felt to this day. His service to this county cannot be replaced and will not be forgotten. As is typical of Law Enforcement Officers, he gave of his time selflessly and contributed to the community in ways that often went unnoticed.
We take this time to remember and reflect on the sacrifice of Fallen Officers so we do not forget the danger officers face daily. The loss is great to family, friends, to their fellow brothers and sisters in Law Enforcement and to the communities they serve.
Law Enforcement Officers deserve our gratitude for tirelessly serving, for all the efforts that go unnoticed, for all the time and dedication to making sure we have peace and safety. Deputy Shannon was striving to do these things when he was taken.
Let us be grateful to Law Enforcement and take the time to honor the fallen. May God bless them in their efforts and may they have peace and safety as well.

Police Officers put themselves at risk for strangers every day. Some do not make it home to their families. Next time you think of saying something negative about the police, remember...YOU are one of the strangers.

+ infinity
I have my own LE officer that I mourn. He and his family were subscribers of mine on a paper route that I used to have. There is not a day that goes by that I wonder about him. Never Forget.
