Officer Critically Wounded
This is one of the neighboring counties...any prayers for him would be wonderful.
CAPE CORAL: A Cape Coral police officer is in critical condition a full day after his motorcycle collided with another vehicle. As Officer Damien Garcia fights for his life at Lee Memorial Hospital, he's got plenty of support from family, friends, and colleagues.
Garcia is still battling major head injuries. Cape Coral Police Chief Rob Petrovich says right now the officer is still in bad shape, but that there are glimmers of hope that he will pull through.
For more than 24 hours, Garcia's crash has been on the minds of the entire Cape Coral Police Department.
"There's a brother and sisterhood here. How you explain that to others, I don't know. But when it comes down to these kinds of things, we're one," said Petrovich.
Petrovich says Officer Garcia's condition has been up and down.
"It's a roller coaster. I feel a little more upbeat right now. But that upbeat is relative to how we felt at 2:30 this morning," he said.
Chuck Long is a friend of Garcia's, and the president of the Adopt-a-Family Program - a charity organization Garcia was involved in. He too is pulling for the officer's recovery.
"We wish that we had a lot more people throughout the community that gave one-tenth of what Mr. Garcia has given to this community," said Long.
Petrovich says right now, it's that same community's support that's giving Garcia so much.
Officer Garcia's was riding on the inside lane of Cultural Park Boulevard when he collided with a black SUV. The driver of that SUV told troopers another car was blocking her view of the motorcycle and she just didn't see him.
FHP says charges are pending against that driver.Never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society's punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way" ~Martin Luther King, Jr

Police Officers put themselves at risk for strangers every day. Some do not make it home to their families. Next time you think of saying something negative about the police, remember...YOU are one of the strangers.

"It's a great life. You risk your skin catching killers and the juries turn them loose so they can come back and shoot at you again. If your honest , your poor your whole life. And , In the end , you wind up dying all alone on some dirty street. For what? For nothing. For a tin star."
Far from being a handicap to command, compassion is the measure of it. For unless one values the lives of his soldiers and is tormented by their ordeals , he is unfit to command.
