Co-worker found deceased
He worked in Wolven's district. He used to crack me up on the radio with his super thick southern accent. Sad to to see this happen, I always got along pretty well with him. We were related for a short time (his cousin was my father in law), which he used to mess with me about all the time.
Deputy First Class Phillip Benjamin Albritton Jr., and former Zolfo Springs Police Chief, was found in his Punta Gorda home Tuesday night about 7:51 p.m., according to Sheriff's spokesman Bob Carpenter.
Albritton did not report for duty and a deputy was sent to his home, where Albritton was found dead in a bedroom.
An autopsy is being performed.
Sheriff Bill Cameron sent this e-mail Tuesday night to employees: “It is with great sorrow that I have to inform you of the passing of one of our own. DFC Phillip Albritton, District-3 road patrol, passed away of what appears to be natural causes. DFC Albritton has been employed with our Sheriff’s Office since April 11, 1994. He is survived by his wife and four children. More information will be forthcoming as soon as we know more. Please keep Phillip’s family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
Albritton was born in Arcadia, May 24, 1958.
He worked for the Zolfo Springs Police Department and Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation before joining the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office15 years ago. Funeral arrangements are not complete at this time and will be announced as they become available.Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American G.I.

Thanks for posting Ex401..was going to do so and found that you had already.

Phil was the epitome of a "good ole boy" and that is meant in the nice way..not derrogatory. He never seemed to get mad, never lost his temper, had a really dry sense of humor that once you gotit he cracked you up and had the slowest southern drawl ever. He was a really good guy and was a squad mate. This is one of those times when I am glad that I am on honor guard so that I could provide him with some respect and thanks during his funeral but due to my light duty status I will be unable to
Last time I worked with him..he stood there and laughed at me cause I was so excited to be petting a cow. I am a dork and he never failed to call me on it.
He will be missed. Been a sad day around the office.

My condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of the fallen. and especially Wolven and ex401mp.
Wolven, you can still show your respect by going to the funeral service. Though it won't be the same as being in the honor guard, I'm sure your friend would appreciate it.
We had something similar happen in the PD in my town last year.. One of our reserve officers had a heart attack in between shifts, while getting ready for work. He had worked 8 hrs, was off for 8, and was getting ready to work another 8. He was one of those who would cover for anyone if they needed it. Always had a smile on his face and was easy to talk to. He was about the same age when he passed.
