Off Duty Officer killed in snowmobile crash
This happened in the city where I went to college for law enforcement. Alexandria is a very small community in central Minnesota. Everyone knows everyone and the instructors at the college are very close with the PD and SO. I'm sure this accident is affecting the college, and the town in many ways.
An off-duty officer is dead and another man in serious condition after an Alexandria snowmobile crash Friday night, according to Douglas County dispatch.
At approximately 8:10 p.m., police responded to the crash on Central Lakes Trail near Liberty Road east of Alexandria. They found two men injured when they arrived.
Both men were later airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center.
Police officer Patrick Callaghan, 31, died at the hospital. The second victim, 25-year-old Mark Ruder, is currently in serious condition, according to HCMC.

Police Officers put themselves at risk for strangers every day. Some do not make it home to their families. Next time you think of saying something negative about the police, remember...YOU are one of the strangers.

"It's a great life. You risk your skin catching killers and the juries turn them loose so they can come back and shoot at you again. If your honest , your poor your whole life. And , In the end , you wind up dying all alone on some dirty street. For what? For nothing. For a tin star."
Far from being a handicap to command, compassion is the measure of it. For unless one values the lives of his soldiers and is tormented by their ordeals , he is unfit to command.
