Officer, suspect killed; 2nd cop shot

JACKSON, Mich. (WOOD/AP) - Authorities say a 63-year-old man who fatally shot one police officer and wounded another in Jackson was also shot to death.
A Blackman Township Public Safety officer and a Jackson police officer responded about 12:20 a.m. Tuesday to the 100 block of Mitchell Street. A news release did not specify why the officers were called to the home.
When they arrived they made contact with the homeowner, 63-year-old Elvin Potts, who pulled out a handgun and fired three times at the officers. Both of the officers were hit with bullets. One of the officers then fired his gun at Potts, killing him, police say.
Jackson Police Officer James Bonneau and Blackman Township Public Safety Officer Darrin McIntosh were taken to Allegiance Hospital.
Officer Bonneau died from his injuries. Officer McIntosh underwent surgery for a non-life-threatening injury to his lower body, according to the Associated Press.
The Jackson County Major Crimes Task Force, Jackson County Sheriff's Office and state police are investigating the incident.
Officer Bonneau, 26, had been with the Jackson Police Department since November 2007. Officer McIntosh, 22, has been with the Blackman Township Department of Public Safety for about a year.
