Turlock (CA) Officer shot in the chest, arm and leg
A Turlock police officer remains hospitalized after he was shot in the line of duty early Friday.
The shooting happened just after midnight at Geer Road and Hawkeye Avenue.
Authorities said the officer tried to stop two men in a car but instead of stopping, the men pulled into an apartment complex and fled on foot. Police said the men then began firing at the officer, striking him three times.
"He does have a severe injury to the right upper arm, a more minor injury to the right leg, and was shot in the chest. His bullet-proof vest saved his life," Turlock Police Department spokeswoman Rosemary Howser said.
One of the men was shot and killed by another officer. The other man was taken into custody shortly before 6 a.m.
Police officials said the wounded officer is expected to recover.
