The City of Jackson only has a booking facility. They do not detain prisoners for more than a couple of hours on arrest. The Hinds County Detention Center is several miles away in a semi-rural area. The officers were probably transporting the suspect to DC after arrest.

UFB, the city of Jackson, capital of the state of Ms.the most populous city in Ms. ,does not have a holding jail,YET the podunk town I live in with a pop. of about 8k/10k has a jail with kitchen and a dozen long term cells?????
WTF is wrong with this picture,???
If the city has felony charges ,they will transport to our parish jail(I imagine same as Hinds County C.C. ),but they can and do usually hold all misdeameanors in their own jail.

That's how we are here too. We have a pretty decent facility, with 12 cells, several interview rooms, etc. But it is for holding only. The county jail is where any long term holdings of misdemeanors or felonies go. But we generally don't jail misdemeanors on bond unless it's DV, aggravated DUI, etc. Our jail is too full to accept all of our petty stuff. It serves a county population of over a half million.
This is sad all around. I read somewhere that the inmate was brought back to the jail. Anyone who needs proof that cops show a great deal of restraint need only ask the question why this guy wasn't dumped off at the jail door as a bag of Broken Bone Soup.
