TEANECK — A Teaneck police officer died following a one-vehicle accident, according to a report on News 12 New Jersey.
John Abraham's cruiser struck a utility pole near police headquarters on Teaneck Road between Holland Terrace and Bennett Street around 2 a.m, the report said. He was taken to Holy Name Hospital before being pronounced dead this morning.
The 37-year-old married father of a 5-year-old son had been on the force since 1994.
The cause of the crash is under investigation. Police said Abraham wasn't responding to a call at the time of the crash, but his computer showed he was checking some license plate numbers just before the accident.
Hours earlier, the Teaneck High School graduate had helped save an elderly man choking on a piece of steak, according to a report on NorthJersey.com.
